The Wilson Family from Teesside will be the special guests at the Howth Singing Circle’s 21st Anniversary Concert. The Wilson Family – consisting of brothers, Tom, Chris, Steve, Ken and Mike
The Wilson Family – consisting of brothers, Tom, Chris, Steve, Ken and Mike and sometimes sister, Pat – have been singing and performing since 1974 in folk clubs, festivals, concert platforms and on record. They have released a number of albums, including their acclaimed debut album, Horumarye (1983) – dedicated solely to the songs of Teesside songwriter, Graeme Miles – and The Wilson Family Album released in 1991.
In August 2011 the Family took part in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, where they collaborated with Northumbrian piper and fiddler, Kathryn Tickell, the Northern Sinfonia and the BBC Singers. In 2013, they recorded songs for The Last Ship, the play and album by Sting .
In 2017, the Wilson Family were awarded the Gold Badge, the English Folk Dance & Song Society’s highest honour. The group received the award from EFDSS Chair, Alistair Anderson, at the opening of the Hartlepool Folk Festival, of which the family are patrons.
