Event Details

As part of the Inishowen Singing Weekend – organised by the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle – traditional singer, Thomas McCarthy, will discuss his ongoing project collecting songs, stories and folklore of the travelling community, in conversation with Alan Woods of the Irish Traditional Music Archive.
Thomas comes from a long line of old traditional singers and musicians, the McCarthys who settled in Birr, County Offaly, generations ago. Thomas has grown up within the oral tradition, learning songs directly from his family and the interlinked families of the travelling community in Ireland and England. In recognition of his intricate ornamented style and his passion for the songs and their history, he was the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Traditional Singer of the Year for 2019.

The Festival weekend registration fee of €60 provides admission to all events, including refreshments at sessions, lunch and dinner on Saturday and lots of sandwiches! Registration will open on Friday March 25 at 5 pm in the Ballyliffin Hotel. No advance booking is necessary.
