Event Details

This concert brings together the Carlos and Wynne families from Roscommon in a special collaboration.

While Dylan Carlos grew up in a flute-playing family, he became a fiddle player – winning the senior All Ireland fiddlein Drogheda in 2019 and in the same year, releasing a debut album as one-third of the group Carlos Sweeney McCartin.

Dylan’s father, John, is a highly regarded flute player, playing in the North Connacht style.  John has won underage All Ireland flute titles.  He is also a very talented banjo player. He has toured Britain, Europe and the US with Comhaltas.  He, too, has recently released a debut album.

Shane Carlos is the third generation of flute players in the Carlos family.  Starting off on the whistle as a pupil of Paddy Ryan, Shane later graduated to the flute.  A regular performer on the Dublin session scene, Shane appears on the albums, The Flute Players Of Roscommon Volumes 1 and 2, and has contributed to his father John’s new album along with his brother, Dylan.

Brother and sister, John and Liz Wynne have been playing together for many years.  Both siblings were also taught initially by Paddy Ryan. John (pictured above) was subsequently helped in starting the flute by the great, Patsy Hanley. John has won All-Ireland titles at various grades of flute and whistle. The siblings recorded together on John’s debut album, With Every Breath, and both have recorded for The Flute Players Of Roscommon project. John was also a member of the band, Providence, along with concertina maestro, Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh. He is currently a member of the band Gatehouse.
