British-based American-born singer-songwriter and mutli-instrumentalist, Sam Amidon, returns to Ireland as part of his spring tour. The son of folk performers in Vermont and a friend of The Gloaming’s Thomas Bartlett since childhood, and like Bartlett, a fan of Martin Hayes, Sam released Solo Fiddle, an album of traditional Irish fiddle tunes in 2001. His first album of songs, But This Chicken Proved False Hearted made with Bartlett, was originally released in 2007 and re-issued in 2015.

His album catalogue boasts six more – including All Is Well (2008), I See the Sign (2010) – named as  one pf the New York Times top ten albums of the year – Bright Sunny South (2013). Lily-O (2014). The Following Mountain (2017) and Sam Amidon (2021).  He released an EP, Fatal Flower Garden, a tribute to American folk music collector and anthologist, Harry Smith, in 2019. Sam  also appeared on Kronos Quartet’s 2017 album, Folk Songs,  as one of the featured singers along with Rhiannon Giddens and others.

Among his previous performances in Ireland, Sam Amidon hosted a special tribute to Pete Seeger in Dublin’s National Concert Hall in September 2016 with a line-up that included Tommy Sands, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and The Voice Squad.

Sam is married to musician Beth Orton.
