SUPPORTED BY THE BRIDGE CÉILÍ BAND
Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished button accordion players of his generation, Daithí Gormley has an extensive repertoire steeped in the rich musical heritage of his native county, Sligo. He has performed at festivals and concerts nationally and internationally and makes regular appearances on radio and television. He has researched, published, and lectured on Irish traditional music.
Frankie Gavin has played fiddle and flute since his teenage years, winning All-Ireland competitions for both at age 17. Originally from Corrandulla in Co. Galway, his love of music began when he was given a tin whistle for his fourth birthday. Originally influenced by the great Irish and American-Irish fiddle players, such as James Morrison, he became co-founder of the leadling traditional band, Dé Danann (later De Dannan) – who, fronted by a succession of fmeale singers (including Dolores Keane, Mary Black, Maura O’Connell and Eleanor Shanley) established themselves as one of the country’s leading traditional ensembles. Subsequently as a solo performer, Frankie played with artists from other genres including the Rolling Stones, Stephane Grappelli and Yehudi Menuhin.
He has also led two further ensembles: the Roaring 20s Irish Orchestra and the fiddle quartet, The Provenance, as well as performing in the trio KGB – with piper, Paddy Keenan, and accordion player, Dermot Byrne.
Frankie was recognised as the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Traditional Musician of the Year in 2018.
Formed in 1970, the Bridge Céilí Band has won the Fleadh Cheoil Céilí Band competition six times. Over the years they have performed in concerts and céilí throughout Ireland as well as on radio and television.
