Mairéad Walls is the special guest at the latest instalment of the Courthouse Singing Sessions – sponsored by the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely in Co. Wicklow and hosted online by Rachel Uí Fhaolaín of the North Wexford Singing Circle.

Mairéad is originally from Dunloy in Co. Antrim. She was taught to play traditional Irish music by renowned musician & singer, the late John Kennedy of Cullybackey. Mairéad plays the tin whistle and sings Irish traditional songs in English. She was awarded the ‘Keeper of the Tradition’ Award at the Ulster Traditional Singing Festival in 2011 and the ‘Contribution to Music Award’ at the Gig ’n The Bann – Cross Cultural Music & Dance Festival in September 2018. Mairéad is particularly fond of the traditional songs of Ulster and Antrim. She is the founding member of the group ‘Déanta’ and has just released her debut CD of music & song: Mairéad Walls Songs and Tunes from Co. Antrim.
