Event Details

The musical cultures of Ireland and India meet – through the work of two of their greatest proponents – in Donal Ó Céilleachair’s documentary. Acclaimed Indian classical musician and composer Ustad Wajahat Khan and renowned Irish musician and composer Peadar Ó Riada join forces in a musical meeting of East and West. In so doing, they reveal the shared musical heritage, cultural history and influences of their beloved native traditions.

Based in London and Cork respectively, Ustad Wajahat Khan of India and Peadar Ó Riada of Ireland are among the most leading performers and composers in their respective genres of Indian classical music and Irish traditional music. They are also sons of revered musical fathers (Ustad Imrat Khan and Sean Ó Riada) and continuing a family tradition of musicianship and composition which have greatly influenced the music of the current generation.

The ensemble featured in the film comprises six distinguished master musicians playing traditional instruments and percussion from their respective genres – the sarod, tanpura and tabla from India and the concertina/accordion/whistle, harp/flutes, and uilleann pipes/flutes from Ireland.

Ustad Wajahat Khan, Peadar Ó Riada and Dónal Ó Céilleachair will be in attendance for a post-screening question-and-answer session with the audience.

After the in-person screening at the Lighthouse Cinema, the documentary will be available for streaming online from 8pm for up to 72 hours.

Tickets for the in-person screening are available from at a cost of €14 each.

Tickets for online viewing are available from at a cost of €9 each.
