Event Details

This week’s guests are Odí Ní Chéilleachair (pictured above right) and her daughter Damhnait Ní Fhártharta (above left).  Originally from the Waterford Gaeltacht, Odí has been living in Conamara for many years. She got her songs from her mother, Ann Mulqueen and from members of the Tobin family of Waterford. Damhnait is Odí’s daughter and she has inherited a rich song tradition both from her mother and from her father’s family. She attended the Gaelacadaimh where she was a student of Mháire Pheitir Uí Dhroighneáin. Her relative Meaití Jó Shéamuis is also an important source of songs. She plays the concertina and the harp and has a particular fondness for slow airs.

Everyone with an interest in traditional singing (in any language) is welcome! Just come along and enjoy the singing, and of course the company, and maybe you might like to sing a traditional song yourself. You are more than welcome! Tá míle fáilte romhat! We would especially welcome more new singers, more women singers, more younger singers agus ar ndóigh fáilte speisialta roimh Ghaeilge!
