Event Details
Richard Dawson presents a very special solo set featuring material from his celebrated last album 2020 stripped down to its raw guitar-and-voice essence, plus live favourites taken from his back catalogue of albums including Nothing Important, The Glass Trunk and Peasant. 2020 was the sixth solo studio album from the black-humoured bard of Newcastle, an utterly contemporary state-of-the-nation study, that uncovers a tumultuous and bleak time.
Special guests Landless sing unaccompanied traditional songs from Irish, Scottish, English and American traditions in close four-part harmony. Their repertoire features songs of love, death and lamentation, as well as work songs, shape-note hymns and more recently penned folk songs. The band are currently working on a long-awaited follow-up to their acclaimed 2018 debut album, Bleaching Bones.
Tickets, each costing €28, are available from https://www.paviliontheatre.ie/events/view/richard-dawson.

Event Details
Am alumnus of the Tulla Céili Band – which was for many years led by his father P.J., Martin Hayes is not only one of East Clare’s most famous musicians: he is also one of the world’s most celebrated fiddle players and an influential figure in Irish traditional music. By his late teens, Hayes had won seven All-Ireland Fiddle titles and by his early twenties he had relocated to Chicago where he began to explore genres beyond traditional music including his first collaboration with Dennis Cahill in a band called Midnight Court – which was to begin a lifelong friendship.
Rooted in the classical, folk and contemporary worlds, he founded the Irish-American band, The Gloaming, whose self-titled debut album won the Meteor Choice Music Prize for Best Irish Album, and who continued to play to full houses around the world until they ceased touring in 2019. While Hayes has collaborated with everyone from Bill Frisell and Yo-Yo Ma to Sting and Paul Simon, his long-term creative partnership with the late guitarist and producer, Dennis Cahill was the most enduring – not performing together as a duo but also in The Gloaming and in The Martin Hayes Quartet.
His latest project, The Common Ground Ensemble, builds on the earlier Gloaming and MHQ concepts, by further broadening the palette of tones and textures not only in terms of the range of instruments being deployed but also the variety of genres represented by the contributing performers.
As Martin, himself, has noted: “The journey never reaches a conclusion. Every new project is the result of possibilities and ideas that begin to appear in the course of developing the previous project.”
Tickets for this solo performance cost €32 each and are available from https://paviliontheatre-tickets.paviliontheatre.ie/shows/873638113/events/129442980/seats?zone=Tickets&_ga=2.217845974.1157677892.1660227175-1745760801.1660227175.
