Percussive dancer and musician, Nic Gareiss, from Michigan, has teamed up with fiddler, Ultan O’Brien, from County Clare to develop a set of new duets for three dates in Belfast, Cork, and Dublin.
Acclaimed for his solo performances and various duo collaborations, Nic Gareiss is a frequent visitor to these islands, having studied at the Irish World Music Academy at the University of Limerick and at the University of Edinburgh.
He is also a member of the contemporary folk band, This is How We Fly, alongside Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Seán Mac Erlaine and Petter Berndalen.
The Thrill, his most recent collaboration with Canadian banjo virtuoso, Allison de Groot, is “a visual album of sound and movement” – inspired by the archived repertoire of musician, singer, and dancer Hobart Smith, who was born in Saltville, Virginia in 1897.
