Christy Moore is one of four musicians to be honoured on a new set of postage stamps, being issued by An Post – the Irish postal service.
Christy Moore, along with Lisa Hannigan, Hozier and Sinéad O’Connor are being honoured because they have all performed at the Glastonbury Festival. The large format stamps were designed by Dublin-based company, Shaughn McGrath Creative. The stamps will be available in a book of four for €4.40 on the An Post website and in Post Offices nationwide. Some of the proceeds from the sale of the stamps will go to the Irish Music Industry Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund.
To mark the launch, a virtual event was held on the An Post website at 8pm on July 15, which will remain on the website for the four weeks. The event features performances by Hannigan, Moore and Hozier, as well as a spoken work performance of O’Connor’s Three Babies by Natalya O’Flaherty – all broadcast from the courtyard of the GPO in Dublin.
Speaking ahead of the virtual gig, Christy said he wished his grandparents were alive to see his image on a stamp, adding that to be invited to sing at the GPO is “one of the greatest privileges” of his working life.
